Older adults comprise over half the patient population in the intensive care unit. Despite this, few Physicians in the ICU are trained in providing comprehensive care for this population, and barriers to caring for critically ill older adults have received insufficient attention. This session will draw on multidisciplinary and multi-institutional perspectives from geriatrics, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, and pulmonary-critical care medicine to provide evidence-based and practical recommendations to optimize the clinical care of the older adult during and after the ICU.
CME credits and/or Certificates of Completion are not provided for this session.
1- Appreciate key principles of geriatric medicine that may be applied to the clinical care of the critically ill older adult
2- Integrate and apply geriatrics principles into the treatment of the critically ill older adult
3-Understand successful interprofessional models that optimize long-term functional recovery for seriously ill older adults after the ICU
